> We cannot quote verified Takealot star ratings for whey in South Africa, because Takealot blocks automated checks and we do not publish unverifiable ratings. What we can verify in October 2026: Takealot lists ATP Fitness, Nutritech and others from R195 to R850 a tub. Judge listings by price per 30 g of protein, the seller name and the written one- to three-star reviews.

Key facts:
- Healthnews24 does not publish Takealot star ratings because they could not be verified and change daily.
- ATP Fitness Unflavoured Whey Isolate 800 g is R699 on Takealot (undated PriceCheck snapshot) against R900 on the brand's shop (October 2026).
- Takealot whey tubs we verified ranged from R195 (Amazonia Pure Whey 900 g, type not published) to R850.
- South African testing found 68.6% of sampled protein products differed significantly from labelled protein, so reviews cannot confirm content.

## What are the best-rated whey proteins on Takealot?

We do not publish star ratings or review counts for Takealot whey, because we could not verify them: Takealot's product pages block automated checks and ratings change daily. Any list that quotes exact stars without a date is unreliable. This page instead gives the prices we could verify and shows how to read reviews yourself.

## Which whey products and prices can we verify?

| Product | Takealot price (undated PriceCheck snapshot, October 2026) | What is published |
|---|---|---|
| ATP Fitness Unflavoured Whey Isolate 800 g | R699 | no serving or protein per serving in listing text |
| ATP Fitness Unflavoured Whey Concentrate 1 kg | R639 | as above |
| Nutritech Premium Whey 1 kg | R619 (R550 at Clicks) | nutrition not published in sources we could read |
| Black Bull Whey Supreme 908 g (unbranded listing) | R319 | whey type and nutrition not published |
| Amazonia Pure Whey 900 g | R195 | whey type, protein and ingredients not published |

The R195 tub is the cheapest we saw, but a listing that does not say what type of whey it is, or how much protein a scoop holds, cannot be compared fairly. Takealot snapshots carry no listing date.

## How do you read Takealot reviews?

- **Check who sells it.** Prefer "sold by Takealot" or the brand's official store. See [are Takealot supplements genuine](/answers/are-takealot-supplements-genuine-south-africa/).
- **Read the one- to three-star reviews first.** Look for repeated complaints about clumping, a chalky taste, short best-before dates or tubs that look tampered with.
- **Weigh volume, not just the average.** A 4.6 average from 12 reviews tells you less than 4.3 from 900.
- **Watch for mixed variants.** Ratings are often shared across flavours or sizes, so a review may describe a different tub.
- **Look at dates.** Formulas and suppliers change; a review from two years ago may describe another product.
- **Ignore reviews as proof of protein content.** Reviews cannot detect label errors, and South African testing found 68.6% of sampled products differing significantly from labelled protein. Use [per 30 g protein](/answers/whey-protein-per-30g-protein-comparison-south-africa/) and the label.

## Is the Takealot discount real?

Takealot often shows a struck-through "was" price. ATP's isolate shows R699 beside R950, but the ATP shop price is R900, so the true saving is about R200, not R250. Compare against the brand's own shop, as in [Dis-Chem vs Takealot](/answers/whey-protein-dis-chem-vs-takealot-south-africa/), and check delivery: free delivery starts at R750 from September 2026.
