> In Johannesburg and Pretoria you can buy whey in South Africa's national chains (Dis-Chem, Clicks), online retailers (Takealot, Faithful to Nature, Wellness Warehouse) and brand shops (USN, NPL, Biogen, PVM) that deliver nationally. We have not verified store-level stock or delivery times by suburb, so check before you drive. Local tubs cost about R329–R700 (October 2026).

Key facts:
- Dis-Chem's online sports store lists 61 whey products; its prices match NPL and Biogen's own shops (October 2026).
- Nutritech Heavy Duty Whey 908 g was R329 at Clicks (PriceCheck, October 2026).
- Takealot's free-delivery minimum is R750; below it, standard delivery costs R75 (September 2026).
- Store-level Gauteng stock and delivery times were not verified.

## Where can you buy whey protein in Johannesburg and Pretoria?

You do not need a specialist shop; most options are national, and the same tubs are priced the same online. We checked chains and online retailers in October 2026 but did not check stock by Gauteng store or suburb, so call ahead before you drive.

| Channel | What to expect | Verified |
|---|---|---|
| Dis-Chem (stores and Dis-Chem Living Fit online) | widest range: 61 whey products listed online; prices match NPL and Biogen shops | online range and prices; store stock not checked |
| Clicks | local brands such as Nutritech, USN and Black Bull; Nutritech Heavy Duty Whey 908 g was R329 | prices via PriceCheck snapshots |
| Takealot | almost every brand, including ATP Fitness; free delivery from R750, R75 below that | price and threshold (EWN, September 2026); same-day or next-day offered where available |
| Brand shops: USN, NPL, Biogen, PVM | direct online; prices mirror Dis-Chem | delivery times not published in text we read |
| Faithful to Nature | 185 protein powders and shakes, many plant-based | range; free-delivery threshold not stated |
| Wellness Warehouse | natural-health retailer; its homepage lists free delivery over R400 and a 60-minute option | homepage claim; Gauteng coverage not verified |
| Sportsmans Warehouse and gym shops | we did not check ranges | not verified |

## Which is cheapest?

It depends on the product ([Dis-Chem vs Takealot](/answers/whey-protein-dis-chem-vs-takealot-south-africa/)). Clicks and Takealot often undercut brand shops on local labels; Dis-Chem matches the brand. ATP Fitness's unflavoured isolate was R699 on Takealot (undated PriceCheck snapshot) against R900 on its shop.

## How fast will it arrive?

We could not verify delivery times from brand shops, and Takealot's checkout defaults to paid same-day or next-day options, so choose a standard date for free delivery if you are not in a hurry. For ATP Fitness, a Cape Town brand, courier time to Gauteng is not published. For an event or a gym start date, order a week early.

## How do you avoid fakes and heat damage?

Buy from the brand, a national chain or items sold and shipped by Takealot, and check the batch and best-before date ([how to spot fake whey](/answers/how-to-spot-fake-whey-protein-south-africa/)). In a Gauteng summer, do not leave a delivery on a hot stoep or in a car.

## Which tub should you buy?

Compare per 30 g of protein, not per tub ([comparison](/answers/whey-protein-per-30g-protein-comparison-south-africa/)).
