Which South African retailer is cheapest for whey protein?
None wins across the board. In South Africa the biggest price gaps are between a brand's own shop and Takealot, not between Dis-Chem and Clicks. Dis-Chem's online sports store (Dis-Chem Living Fit) copies the brand shops of NPL and Biogen almost to the cent, so buying from either gives the same price. Clicks stocks cheaper local labels. Takealot discounts some brands below their own shops.

Takealot raised its free-delivery minimum from R650 to R750 and charges R75 for standard delivery below that (EWN, 2 September 2026). Its checkout also defaults to faster paid options, so choose a standard date if you want the free tier. Add delivery before concluding Takealot is cheaper: a R639 concentrate under the threshold costs R714 delivered, still below the ATP shop's R800 before that shop's own delivery fee, which we have not verified. Is there a counterfeit risk on marketplaces?
